Huntersville Fall Events 2026: Where Weekend Calendars Overlap

October 15, 2026

At 9:05 on a Saturday morning in October, a pre-opening gate show starts at 16445 Poplar Tent Road, where Highway 73 meets Poplar Tent at the Huntersville-Concord line. On those same Saturdays, the corn maze at Rural Hill on Neck Road is open, and on October 17 the Town of Huntersville holds Lake Norman Diwali at Veterans Park. Each of these is run by a different organizer with its own calendar, and nobody lines the three up.

On most fall weekends they barely touch, but a few dates between now and Thanksgiving stack them on top of each other. Saturday, November 14 is the one where the town, Rural Hill and the Carolina Renaissance Festival all have major events running in the same morning.

The season, weekend by weekend

The festival sets the schedule for the whole season. It runs Saturdays and Sundays from October 3 through November 22, 2026, and every weekend after the first has a theme. The table below puts the festival's themes next to the Rural Hill and town dates, plus the Charlotte Motor Speedway events that share some of the same regional roads.

Weekend Carolina Renaissance Festival Rural Hill Town of Huntersville Charlotte Motor Speedway
Oct. 17–18 Wizards & Revels Corn Maze Lake Norman Diwali, Sat. Oct. 17, 1:30–6:30 p.m., Veterans Park —
Oct. 24–25 Celtic Music Corn Maze Halloween in Huntersville, Sun. Oct. 25, 4–7 p.m., Huntersville Athletic Park —
Oct. 31–Nov. 1 Halloween Daze and Spooky Knights Corn Maze, final day Oct. 31 — World Short Track Championship, Oct. 29–31
Nov. 7–8 Pirates' Christmas, Artisan Appreciation — — World of Outlaws World Finals, Nov. 4–7
Nov. 14–15 Time Travelers' Sheepdog Trials and Dog Festival Veterans Day Parade and Ceremony, Sat. Nov. 14 —
Nov. 21–22 Final Huzzah — — Speedway Christmas opens Nov. 20

The first two festival weekends are already over. The Bank of America 400 and the Blue Cross NC 300 both ran at the Speedway on Sunday, October 11, which was also BrewFest Sunday at the festival. Every weekend from here on has at least two of the calendars running.

How the festival handles Highway 73

Every one of those weekends shares a corridor that has kept filling in with homes. In 2024, Lake Norman Publications reported that after neighbors complained about festival traffic on N.C. 73, organizers formed a community action group and consulted traffic engineers. The changes included a relocated, paved driveway into the grounds, a revised traffic management plan, fewer tickets sold and online-only sales, and a 9:30 a.m. opening meant to get most arrivals off the road by mid-morning. Matt Siegel, the festival's director of marketing and entertainment, told the paper that some daytime congestion is still to be expected, and he put it in a wider context.

"These road systems have not kept up with the overall development in the area, and that's just year-round."

That reporting covers measures adopted in 2022 and the 2024 season. It isn't a 2026 traffic advisory, and none turned up for this year. The festival's current guidance is aimed at visitors, but it shapes what neighbors see. It tells drivers not to rely on Google Maps or Apple Maps. It asks them not to drive or park in neighboring subdivisions, which it says won't save time anyway. And it recommends arriving before opening and leaving before closing. Tickets are date-specific and limited, adult general admission is $37.99 plus sales tax, and the festival warns that some dates sell out. Parking is free.

Because tickets are sold in advance for a specific date and the gates open on a fixed schedule, traffic near the grounds is heaviest around opening and closing. The closing time depends on which page you read. The 2026 season materials list gates as open 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The driving-directions page says the festival closes at about 6:15 p.m. in October and at 5:30 p.m. in November, after daylight saving time ends. If you're timing a late-afternoon drive near Poplar Tent on an October Saturday, the later time is the safer one to plan around.

The festival also flags the Speedway. When the two overlap, it recommends I-77 instead of I-85 for festival traffic. The World Short Track Championship runs Thursday, October 29 through Saturday, October 31, and the World of Outlaws World Finals runs Wednesday, November 4 through Saturday, November 7, so both end on a festival Saturday. That puts more traffic on I-77 on Halloween Saturday and on Pirates' Christmas Saturday.

Rural Hill runs on a different road

Rural Hill's events take place at 4431 Neck Road, and the maze page warns that there is no public access by way of Jim Kidd Road. The 2026 Corn Maze has been open weekends since September 5, with public hours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and it closes for the season on October 31. That leaves two Friday-through-Sunday runs and one last Friday and Saturday, and the final day is also the festival's Halloween Daze and Spooky Knights opener.

Rural Hill's other big fall event comes two weeks after the maze closes. The Sheepdog Trials and Dog Festival is November 14–15, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, with herding, dog demonstrations, vendors and food, and leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome. The page address still has "2025" in it, but both the page title and Rural Hill's event listing give the 2026 dates.

The town's events, at two addresses

The Town of Huntersville's fall events are at two places. Lake Norman Diwali is Saturday, October 17, from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Veterans Park, 201 Huntersville-Concord Road. That's Wizards & Revels weekend at the festival, one of the weekends with free child admission, conditions apply, and the corn maze is open too.

Halloween in Huntersville moves to Huntersville Athletic Park at 11836 Verhoeff Drive, with trick-or-treat booths from 4 to 7 p.m. The town's listing gives the date as Sunday, October 25, but its description calls it "Saturday, October 25, 2026." October 25 is a Sunday this year, which matches the listing. It falls on Celtic Music Sunday at the festival, and it starts about two and a quarter hours before the festival's posted October closing of about 6:15 p.m.

After Halloween, the next town event on the calendar is the Veterans Day Parade on Saturday, November 14.

Saturday, November 14, hour by hour

  1. 9:30 a.m. The Veterans Day Parade steps off in downtown Huntersville, and the festival gates open at Poplar Tent Road for Time Travelers' Weekend.
  2. 10 a.m. The Sheepdog Trials and Dog Festival opens at Rural Hill on Neck Road.
  3. 11 a.m. The Veterans Day Ceremony follows the parade at Veterans Park, 201 Huntersville-Concord Road. The town's event details run to 12:30 p.m.
  4. 5 p.m. The Sheepdog Trials close for the day.
  5. 5:30 p.m. The festival closes, on its November schedule.

Time Travelers' Weekend is another free-child-admission weekend, conditions apply, which can bring more families on a day when the other two events are also aimed at families. On this Saturday, all three organizers are bringing people into town during the same morning hour.

On Sunday, November 15, Rural Hill and the festival are open again, and no town event for that day appears in the listings used for this post.

The handoff to December

The last weekend is November 21–22, Final Huzzah, with free admission for children 12 and under, conditions apply. Speedway Christmas opens the day before, Friday, November 20, and runs through January 3, 2027. The town takes over two weeks later at Veterans Park, with the Town Tree Lighting on Friday, December 4. The event runs 6 to 8 p.m. and the tree is lit at 6:30. Holidays in Huntersville follows on Saturday, December 5, from 3 to 8 p.m. From then on, the town's events are the only ones of the three still running.

Since 2022, the festival's organizers have been working to manage weekend traffic on the streets near Highway 73 and Poplar Tent Road.
